We were notified that this report had been published at Academia, who wanted confirmation that they could publish the report there.

Academia.edu is an American for-profit social site for academics. It began as a free and open repository for academic journal articles.

It was never our intention to be published on a website with 71 million users. Academics and students, but information about the environmental problems artificial sweeteners can cause is important. 

No environmental assessments for food additives

In the EU, it was previously not permitted to make environmental assessments in connection with the risk assessment of food additives. Chemical sweeteners such as sucralose (SUC), aspartame (ASP), cyclimate (CYK), etc. approved and deemed safe by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as safe for humans, as long as one stays below the daily intake limit.

Nevertheless, it can be said that no consideration has been given to the environmental effects of the consumption of such synthetic sweeteners. Even if a substance is considered harmless to the human body, it does not necessarily mean that it is harmless, or without the influence of fish, birds, plants, and other life in nature.
