How much JustSweet can industry use in products?

Steviol glycosides are natural sweeteners extracted from the plant Stevia rebaudiana. They are approved as food and drink additives in the EU, but there are rules for how much can be used in different products. EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has set the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of steviol glycosides at 4 mg per kg of body weight per day. The ADI is the amount of a substance that you can eat every day throughout your life without it being harmful to your health.

EFSA has also set maximum usage amounts for steviol glycosides in various product groups, which vary from 20 to 2700 mg/kg. These limits are based on estimated consumption of the various products and safety margins. If a product is not listed in EFSA's table, you can use a rule of thumb that you can use 18,2 g JustSweet per 100 Steviol equivalents. JustSweet is a natural sweetener that contains steviol glycosides and prebiotic fibres.

Below the text, we have included a table for different product groups with maximum usage quantities for JustSweet.
